Biography

James R. Segedy is a Software Developer at Epic Systems Corporation in Verona, Wisconsin. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Vanderbilt University in August, 2014. His academic research involved designing and implementing adaptive technology-based tools for preparing students to productively engage in and manage difficult, long term, and open-ended problem-solving tasks.

James was a member of the Teachable Agents Research Group (TAG) from 2007 to 2015, and he has played an instrumental role in studying how middle-school students pursue open-ended problem solving. His work has appeared in journals such as Educational Technology Research and Development, The Journal of Learning Analytics, and The Journal of Educational Technology & Society.

While at Vanderbilt, James regularly contributed to international research communities; he has been instrumental in organizing an international research conference (AIED 2011), workshop (at AIED 2013), and special track (ITS special track at FLAIRS-27 and the ILT special track at FLAIRS-28).
